The Valley of Aran

Without doubt one of the most beautiful corners of the Pyrenees

A lovely place to get lost

The Aran Valley is a high mountain region located at the western end of the Catalan Pyrenees. The Garonne River, crosses it from part to part, continuing its journey through the south of France.

The Aran Valley is one of the entrances to the National Park of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, an idyllic place for lovers of nature and the Pyrenees.

Aranese is the co-official language together with Castilian, it is a native language of Occitan origin.

The capital of the entire valley is Vielha, a nerve center where locals and tourists meet. Its restaurants, shops and leisure offer make Vielha a very popular place even for people who stay a few kilometers from the city.

La olla aranesa is the typical dish of the Valley, although in its gastronomy we can find dishes of Catalan and French cuisine.

Romanesque art is present in every corner of the valley, where tourists will find small churches worthy of contemplation, for their construction and for their environment. Most of these artistic gems are of Romanesque origin although with the transformations suffered over the centuries, many of them have ended up being Gothic.

The landscape of the Aran Valley surprises every step we take, since the combination of high peaks of over 3,000 meters and deep valleys, dotted with wooded areas, pastures and crystalline lakes gives rise to spaces of extraordinary beauty.

The ski resort of Baqueira-Beret, just 15 kilometers from Vielha, gives the valley tremendous importance during the winter season, as thousands of skiers meet every day to enjoy the king´s sport.
